Plants help Johnny’s actor Toma Ikuta relax, the talent said in an interview with FINEBOYS, reports Johnny’s Kenkyukai on August 19.
In the September issue, the talent talked about his time working on upcoming movie 脳男 (Nou-otoko), where he plays a cold-hearted killing machine. It has been reported Ikuta had been training hard for the movie’s action scenes for more than six months. But the hardest part of filming has been showing the right emotion while doing nothing.
“It’s not all to do with my acting, there are other things like how the lighting makes my eye glimmer, and how the camera works to create a perception of the Nou-otoko. I feel like the production crew are helping me the most. I’ve always thought that it’s true, but I really think that creating a character is a team effort. I can’t do it by myself.”
So, after a hard day’s work, one would expect Ikuta to chill out by listening to music, but the actor said there is something else that makes him relax.
“One of the best thing’s is getting home and watching over my house plant. Feeding it water, watching the leaves gradually get greener, and then it makes me smile when I see a new leaf come out.”
The FINEBOYS interview also quizzed Ikuta on his own fashion trends. It has been reported Ikuta has been a fan of simple styles like T-shirts, black caps, and turquoise and silver accessories.
“I’ve got a lot of rock concert T-shirts. I’ll go to my favourite band’s concerts and buy T-shirts there.
“I buy bracelets and necklaces, but I always forget to put them on before leaving the house (laughs). I’ve been trying to fix this by putting all of my accessories and watches beside where I keep my keys so I can put them on as I leave the house.”
It has also been reported Ikuta is a backpack fan too.
“Once you start using backpacks you can’t stop because they make things so much more easier.”
Cold, merciless, and murderer are things Toma Ikuta will portray in his upcoming violence mystery movie, it was announced on June 11, reports Nikkan Sports.
It has been reported Ikuta will play the lead in a movie-adaptation of Japanese mystery novel “脳男 (Nou-otoko)”, a story about good-looking yet deadly murderer Ichiro Suzuki who undergoes psychiatric tests so doctors and investigators can find out what really happened.
The role will be a huge change from the usually characters Ikuta has played, but producers have said they expect the Johnny’s talent will be able to provide the right look and preparation needed to become the heartless man in the story. One preparation includes getting in shape for the hand-in-hand combats in which Suzuki attacks his targets. It has been reported to be Ikuta’s first time at full-scale action sequences, and the film’s director had asked Ikuta to start training half a year ago. While the actor has lost weight after taking on Kali, Shooto, and Jeet Kune Do martial arts training, he has gained a lot more muscle.
Filming already started this month, and large-scale stunts will also take place including a a scene where a five-storey hospital will be blown up.
“This is a new challenge. I thought about taking all of my chances on this film ever since I heard about it,” Ikuta said.
“脳男 (Nou-otoko)” is expected to be released in cinemas in February 2013.
Now a recognised award-winning actor, Johnny’s talent Toma Ikuta plays the lead male in his latest film, a movie adaptation of popular girl’s manga series “僕等がいた (Bokura ga Ita)”. A movie looking at the ups and downs of young love, Ikuta says he has learnt a lot from shojo mangas, reports MORE magazine.
“When you look at high school students, you can see that the girls are more mature than the boys. I think I figured out why after reading some shojo mangas. Girls are able to imagine what love is really like, but next to them are a bunch of boys reading ‘Dragonball’ mangas. Of course there’s going to be a difference (laughs).”
The movie’s story depicts the life of a boy and a girl from when they meet in high school, to when they become adults in their 20s. It has been reported Ikuta’s own parents had met in high school and later on got married, so in one sense it is perfectly possible. So what was Ikuta’s love life like in high school?
“I admire couples like my parents and how they fell in love, but… I’ve been doing this job since I was at school so being able to experience it myself was difficult,” he said.
It has been reported Ikuta had said his best memories were the friendships he made in high school.
“We were just a whole bunch of boys doing stupid things. I wasn’t popular with girls, in fact, I think they stayed away from me.
“Some of my best friends at high school included a Kabuki actor, a ballet dancer, and an actor so we’d talk about our work. Like what we’d like to do and stuff… The future that we talked about is like a source of energy for me now to keep moving forward.”
Johnny’s actor Toma Ikuta talked about how he has been friends with newlyweds Shun Oguri and Yu Yamada for years at an event in Tokyo on March 14, reports Sponichi Annex.
It has been reported Ikuta and actress Yuriko Yoshitaka had been attending a special White Day event to promote their movie “僕等がいた (Bokura ga ita)” at Atomi University in Tokyo. It was the same day actor Shun Ogiri and model/actress Yu Yamada had gotten married, and Ikuta was happy to talk to the press about it.
“Today’s been a really happy day for me too. It makes me happy because I’ve been one of Oguri-kun’s friends who has been there for him since he started going out with Yu-chan and I hope they’ll be happy together.”
It has been reported Ikuta had spent New Year’s on holiday with Oguri and Yamada in Hawaii. The Johnny’s talent had even said a while ago Oguri already told him they were planning on getting married.
“Yu-chan never hesitates to talk to [Oguri's friends]. I think they’re perfect together. Both of them love kids so I think they’ll make a great family.”
The two were surprise guests at Sapporo city’s Hokusei Gakuen Girls’ Junior & Senior High School, where the film’s producer Kei Haruna was promoting the movie. After Mr Haruna had explained about how the movie was made, he introduced his guests.
“I’ll call on my guest now. Please welcome them with a polite applause even if it’s only the movie’s director.”
It has been reported as Ikuta and Yoshitaka came walking down from the back of the hall, all 650 girls stood up and started screaming.
“Wow, girls schools have a lot of power,” Ikuta said.
The Johnny’s talent said he hoped the girls would enjoy his new movie.
“The movie’s filled with beautiful Hokkaido skies and green landscapes. I hope you love it. Everyone wonders what their future holds. I hope it becomes a memorable experience for you all. (The movie is about) what happens in the seven years from when you’re 17 to 23. I think you’ll all understand what it means when you’re there. It’s a bittersweet story so I hope you get to see it.”
“僕等がいた (Bokura ga ita)” part 1 opens in Japan cinemas on March 17, and part 2 opens on April 21.
Heart-shaped decorations, a Valentine’s Day present, and acting out favourite scenes were some of the things seen at the premiere of “僕等がいた (Bokura ga ita)” in Tokyo on January 30, reports Sports Hochi, Chunichi Sports, and Asahi Shimbun.
It has been reported more than 800 fans crowded into Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo yesterday to see Johnny’s talent Ikuta Toma and actress Yuriko Yoshitaka arrive hand in hand. The two play the lead characters in the movie, a love story following a couple from the time they first meet at high school, until they both become adults. The movie has two parts, and yesterday’s premiere was for part one.
“I think we’ve been able to make the best adaptation of this original story into a two-part movie,” Ikuta said.
“There’s a reason why the movie was split into two parts,” Yoshitaka said.
As for working with each other for the first time, both actors took the opportunity to talk about what they thought of one another in real life.
“I’d seen her on TV and movies before and thought there was something special about her, but when I saw her on variety shows there was something strange about her too (laughs). When I met her in person though, she turned out to be very smart,” Ikuta said.
“He’s smart and he’s sweet. What I found amazing was a lot of the time I’d see a moment where he would exceed all his acting technique and emotion,” Yoshitaka said.
During the event, the actors asked each other to repeat lines particularly memorable to them, and Yoshitaka managed to push a blushing Ikuta into saying a line that made fans scream.
“Can I kiss you one last time,” he said.
The film’s director, Takahiro Miki, said putting Ikuta and Yoshitaka together for the movie worked so well, it was like they really were dating.
“Almost enough to make me, looking on from the other side of the monitor, jealous. In the beginning I remember telling them to keep their distance because they were standing too close together,” he said.
It has been reported at the event, Yoshitaka said she had a Valentine’s Day present for Ikuta, but assured fans it was not chocolate. Instead, she gave Ikuta some portable music speakers. Ikuta, a keen music lover was elated.
“I’ll use them a lot,” he said.
“僕等がいた (Bokura ga ita)” part 1 opens in Japan cinemas on March 17, and part 2 on April 21.

The Kenzo Noh Theatre held a special event for university students studying Japanese literature, by giving them the chance to experience the 源氏物語 (Genji-monogatari) world.
Ikuta, who plays Hikaru Genji in the upcoming movie “源氏物語 ～ 千年の謎 (Genji-monogatari – Sen-nen no Nazo)”, appeared wearing one of his period costumes, and one of the gagaku (Japanese classical music) performers in the film introduced a number of instruments used around the film’s period.
It has been reported one of the students had asked Ikuta if he would like to date as many women as Hikaru Genji had.
“I…would like to fall in love a lot. I’m amazed at how Hikaru Genji was able to charm so many women,” he said.
Afterwards, Ikuta said he was caught off guard with the question.
