24Hr TV, a charity TV special broadcast live over 24 hours, is now in its 33rd year.  TOKIO will team up on the show with actress Kyoko Yonekura, this year’s charity personality, and popstar group AKB48 and comic act 森三中(Morisanchu), who will be this year’s show personalities.

This year’s team is the biggest yet, but TOKIO member Tomoya Nagase said he was up for the challenge.

“I hope we can all work together to get this year’s ‘thank you’ theme message out there.”

It is the third time TOKIO have been selected as main personalities.  This year they will work around a “ありがとう〜今、あの人に伝えたい〜(Thank you~I want to say it to you now~) theme, reminding people to thank their families, friends, and nature for what they have given us.

Matsuoka said this year’s show had a special meaning to him.

“Everyone (in TOKIO) is in their thirties, and we’re in charge of the 33rd show.  It’s also the third time we’re doing this.  It’s because it’s the third time that I feel like we’ve got something to offer,” he said.

Fellow member Tatsuya Yamaguchi said he was confident the group would do things only people with previous experience would be able to do.

Taichi Kokubun said he was not nervous about taking over the role from last year’s younger main personalities NEWS, and Arashi the year before that.

“We’re not going to let our age get in the way.  We’ve had a wider variety of experiences so we’ll be able to get our own message across,” he said.

This year’s charity T-shirts had been designed by the world-famous Japanese anime company Studio Ghibli.

“24時間テレビ33「愛は地球を救う」(24Hr TV 33 ‘Love Saves the Earth’)” will screen on Japan’s Nippon TV on August 28 – 29.
