Ryo Nishikido wants a wife who greets him when he comes home

In “ちょんまげぷりん (Chonmage Pudding)”, samurai Yasubee Kijima (played by Ryo Nishikido) believes it is a man’s duty to do the outside work and women to do housework.  The actor playing Yasubee has a similar view, Movie Walker reported today.

In the movie adaptation of Gen Araki’s novel of the same title, the samurai warrior time travels 180 years into the future to modern day Tokyo, and starts living with single mother Hiroko and her son Tomoya.  The movie includes scenes where Yasubee  growls at Tomoya for crying so much because “a real man doesn’t cry”, and his shock at knowing that women are allowed to have outside jobs.

When asked what his ideal real-life family would be like, Nishikido said he wanted to fill the gap he had experienced as a kid.

“It would be a family where the man works and the woman does the housework.

“Both of my parents worked full-time, so I felt lonely when I came home and mum wasn’t there to say ‘welcome home’.

“That’s why I want to create an environment where my (future) wife could say ‘welcome home’ to me.

“Of course, this isn’t how I think all women and men should be, and after some time I might want things to be the opposite way (laughs),” he said.

In the movie, his samurai character finds his calling as a sweetmaker.  When the popstar was asked what his calling profession was, Nishikido didn’t hesitate.

“Right now it’s acting!

“But if this were a music interview I would probably say ‘singing’ (laughs).

“Acting is a really fun job.  I can’t say for sure what it is that I find so appealing, but it is really fun.  I know that,” he said.

“ちょんまげぷりん (Chonmage Pudding)” will start in Japanese theaters from July 31.

Jin Akanishi gets first No.1 since going solo

Jin Akanishi’s (26) movie “BANDAGE” has made its DVD sales debut at number one, figures released from Oricon today have revealed.

Released on July 23, the DVD has already sold more than 37,000 copies in Japan, making it top the DVD sales chart and has given Akanishi his first number one since becoming a solo artist.

The movie is set in the rock band boom of the 1990s, where LANDS (Akanishi’s band) have to overcome a number of challenges in order to make their professional debut.  When the movie was released in Japan on November 21 2009, more than 70,000 pre-sold tickets had been bought by fans.  This was the largest number of pre-sold tickets Toho cinemas had sold for a live-action film.

The number one record also beats Akanishi’s previous record for solo work, when the DVD box set for his drama “有閑倶楽部 (Yukan Club)” peaked at number nine in April 2008, with 20,000 copies sold.

V6’s Sakamoto has trouble with womanizer role

09:58 JST July 28, 2010 Leave a comment

Masayuki Sakamoto (39) said he was no lady-charmer at a press conference yesterday for his new musical “Pal Joey”, reports Oricon and Nikkan Sports.

The 1940s broadway musical is set in a Chicago nightclub, where playboy club singer Joey Evans (Sakamoto) gets involved with three women at the same time but has big dreams of owning his own nightclub.

"Pal Joey" co-star Atsuko Takahata

"Pal Joey" co-star Mao Ayabuki

"Pal Joey" co-star Ayane Sakurano

Sakamoto has been reported to have said he was nervous about his role.

“I’ve never had a playboy role before.  I’m usually shy around people…

“But I want to be able to show a man’s sex appeal,” he said.

When one reporter had asked the singer whether anyone at his agency could be his womanizer role model, Sakamoto had laughed it off.

“No, there’s no one.  I don’t know who could be.  Besides, if I give a name I’d probably get fired,” he said.

Having just finished one stage show, he had said he wasn’t tired moving onto a new project.

“I love singing, dancing, and acting, so I couldn’t ask for anything better than the opportunity to do all three at once.

“I don’t get nervous with musicals or stage shows, it’s a place where I can relax,” he said.

Despite having problems with his character’s charm, the singer had said there were some qualities of Joey he’d like to incorporate into his own life.

“Joey has ambition, and he has the strength to keep people from setting him off course.  I know how that feels, and I hope that taking in his good qualities will help me mature,” he said.

Pal Joey will play at the Aoyama Gekijo in Tokyo from October 2 -17, and in Theater BRAVA! in Osaka from October 22 -24.

Johnny’s Jr.’s Tohma Ikuta (25) will make his music video debut with TOKIO for their upcoming single “NaNaNa (太陽なんていらねぇ (Taiyo nante irane))”, it has been revealed yesterday reports

The music video will focus on Ikuta, who plays a man dumped by his girlfriend for being too unreliable, but is cheered on by TOKIO’s song to try and propose to her again.  TOKIO members appear throughout the video, including group leader Shigeru Joshima (39) dressed in a pink bathrobe, and Taichi Kokubun (35) on a rope ladder hanging from the ceiling.

Ikuta has been reported to have said he was excited to have worked on this project.

“To me, TOKIO have been great big brothers for years.

“I’m really happy to be able to work with them in this way,” he said.

The popstar also said he was happy with the finished video.

“If you relax a little, it’s enough to grab your heart and make you cry,” he said.

SMAP No.1 for three decades

SMAP have become the third group in Japanese history to have No.1 albums in three different decades, reports Oricon and Sponichi Annex.

The group’s latest album “We are SMAP!”, which was released on July 21, made its debut on the Japanese charts at number one, having sold 180,000 records so far.  Not only that, but it means SMAP have now had number one album records in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.

Other groups who have achieved such a record are the Southern All Stars (number ones in 1980s, 1990s, 2000s) and CHAGE and ASKA (number ones in 1980s, 1990s, 2000s).

It is the fifth consecutive SMAP album to go to number one, and is the group’s 11th number one since their debut in 1991.  In a time where the life of a popstar is often short-lived, SMAP’s latest record has proven that they have been able to stand up to the challenge.
