SMAP’s “We are SMAP!” has been announced as the theme song for Cirque du Soleil’s next Japan tour in February 2011, reports Sankei Sports on August 9.

The group has been reported to have said that as people working in the entertainment world, they felt extremely priviledged to be able to work with Cirque du Soleil’s Daihatsu Kooza group.

A representative from Cirque du Soleil had been reported to have said they are excited to work with SMAP and are confident it will contribute to the show’s success in Japan.  The Kooza show follows a young boy as he tries to find his place in life.

This is not the first time SMAP have worked with Cirque du Soleil.  In 2008, the circus group’s Dralion team performed acrobatics on SMAP’s TV show “SMAP x SMAP” as the group sang their hit number “Triangle”.

As SMAP prepare for their Shanghai concerts, they have said they hope this project will help them reach out to the world.

“We hope that ‘We are SMAP!’ will be able to cross over countries and boundaries like it has with Cirque du Soleil, and be able to make people everywhere feel the same emotions,” they said.
