Fans will see SMAP’s Goro Inagaki (36) in a completely different light in his latest movie said the film’s director at a press conference in Tokyo today, reports Oricon.

“十三人の刺客 (Jusan-nin no Shikaku, 13 Assassins)” will be shown at the 67th Venice Film Festival, which kicks off in September.

The story follows a group of assassins who hunt down the worst tyrant in history, played by Inagaki.

The film’s director Takashi Miike had said watching Inagaki would “change the way you see SMAP”.

Actor Koji Yakusho, who heads the team of assassins, joked about how he and his co-stars stayed in character.

“We had good teamwork.  During filming all 13 of us made sure we hated Goro Inagaki-chan,” he said.

Bad guy Inagaki had said he was excited to be able to be a part of the Venice Film Festival.

“As a film lover, I’m looking forward to it.  No matter how it ends up, I feel priviledged that my name is going to make it’s mark,” he said.

“13 Assassins” is a remake of the 1963 black-and-white film directed by Eiichi Kudo.
