Yamato movie flying strong at the box office

Sci-fi movie “SPACE BATTLESHIP Yamato”, starring SMAP’s Takuya Kimura, has already made more than 900 million yen at the Japanese box office in its first five days, it was revealed yesterday, reports Oricon.

 

The movie was released on December 1 and has since been seen by more than 790,000 people, according to movie company TOHO.

 

Surveys had also revealed that most of the people seeing the film are probably fans of the original anime series, with the most popular age group being in their 40s (44%), followed by people in their 30s (19%), 50s (15%), and 20s (13%).

 

Men also have the slight majority, beating women moviegoers by 52 to 48.

 

On top of this, 55 per cent of the moviegoers had said they were full-time workers, compared with 16 per cent who said they were housewives.

 

Asking why people had come to see the movie had also revealed how much Yamato fans had been anticipating the movie’s release.  32 per cent had said they had come because they wanted to see Yamato in live action, 22 per cent had said it was because they were fans of the anime, 16 percent had said it was because Takuya Kimura was in the movie, and 5 per cent had said it was to see the visual effects.
