Johnny’s group Arashi made more than 17 billion yen in sales in 2010, with all of their six singles making it to the yearly Top 10 list, reveal figures released by Oricon today, reports Oricon.

Oricon’s 43rd Yearly Ranking for 2010 looked at music sales from December 28 2009 to December 20 2010 in six categories including singles, albums, and DVDs.  Out of 16 rankings, Arashi had topped seven charts, the most for any one artist this year.

The group’s achievements were:

– Most overall sales by an artist

– Most single sale profits by an artist

– Most records sold for an album

– Most album sale profits

– Most DVDs sold for a music show

– Most music DVD sale profits

– Most music DVDs sold by an artist

The group’s album “僕の見ている風景 (Boku no Miteiru Fukei)” was the only million-seller album in Japan for 2010, while their DVD “ARASHI Anniversary Tour 5 x 10” sold more than 477,000 copies in its opening week, creating a new record for first week music DVD sales.

On top of this, the group also broke their own record from last year for the most number of singles by an artist in the yearly Top 10 list.  The six Arashi singles released this year (Troublemaker, Monster, To be free, Love Rainbow, Dear Snow, and Hatenai Sora) made it to the top 10, with the other three spots claimed by AKB48.

It is the first time in 35 years that a male artist has claimed the No.1 spot for top overall sales for two straight years.  It is also the first time in eight years where an artist has claimed the No.1 spot for two straight years for album sales, the last being Hikaru Utada in 2001 – 2002, and the first time in three years since an artist has claimed the No.1 spot for two straight years in music DVD sales, the last being KAT-TUN in 2006 – 2007.

Each Arashi member has released their comments on the group’s success this year.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Arashi this year.  It was a year where we accomplished a lot with six singles, one album and one DVD.  I’ll put all of my body and soul into work so that we can accomplish more and have fun next year,” said Masaki Aiba.

“I am very grateful for this amazing privilege.  We were able to achieve a lot this year and managed to interact with our fans with our music.  I will do my best next year so that we can stay connected to you all through music,” said Kazunari Ninomiya.

“Thanks to so many people supporting us we were able to accomplish a lot this year.  I feel incredibly happy to hear amazing news like this at the end of the year.  I personally hope I can continue to enjoy music like I am now.  Thank you very much,” said Jun Matsumoto.

“Seven top rankings in 2010 is entirely thanks to you all!  Thank you so much!  I will do my best to sing songs that will stay in your hearts in 2011 so please continue to watch over us!,” said Satoshi Ohno.

“I feel incredibly privileged to know that so many people have continued on from last year to come in contact with Arashi songs.  Personally, I was very happy that so many people were able to listen to our first album in two years.  With the help of our staff, I hope to make more music that will stay in your hearts in the upcoming year and hope you continue to support us,” said Sho Sakurai.
