Before V6’s Junichi Okada’s movie sequel “SP THE MOTION PICTURE 革命篇 (Kakumei volume, Revolution volume)” opens in cinemas, fans will get to see what the SP characters get up on the day before events in the movie take place in a special drama, it was revealed yesterday, reports Oricon and Cinema Today.

On March 5, a week before the SP sequel opens, the new SP TV drama, “2夜連続「SP」スペシャル 革命前日 (Two-night SP Special: The day before Kakumei)” will show Kaoru Inoue (Okada) and his police squad team on their day off, which is the day before events in the movie take place.

“It’ll be a chance to show people things we weren’t able to show before, including what the number 4 squad are like at home,” Okada said.

But that is not all.  The day before the TV drama is aired, another SP special, “2夜連続「SP」スペシャル アンコール特別編 (Two-night SP Special: Special Encore episode)”, will show what went on behind-the-scenes of the SP movies.

“There’ll be footage of people I met in Hollywood who were vital to the making of SP.  You’ll also be able to see the training regimes we went through for SP,” Okada said.

The first SP movie “SP THE MOTION PICTURE 野望篇 (Yabo volume, Ambition volume)” opened in cinemas last autumn, and followed on from the story of its original 2007 drama series, where Inoue (Okada) and his team at the Metropolitan Police Department Security Police Division stop terrorists in Tokyo.

The first movie had made more than 3 billion yen at the box office, and will soon be released on DVD on April 16, which according to Okada has many more bonus features.

“There is a lot of extra footage on the DVD.  I hope fans can enjoy this SP season while it lasts,” he said.

“SP THE MOTION PICTURE 革命篇 (Kakumei volume, Revolution volume)” will open in Japan cinemas on March 12, while the two-night SP TV specials will go on air in Japan on March 4 and 5.
