TOKIO invites DASH village locals to concert

Johnny’s band TOKIO invited hundreds of locals living around their DASH village to their concert and promised to help out with rebuilding the area, it was revealed at their Tokyo concert on May 11, reports Daily Sports Online and Chunichi Sports.

The Tokyo concert had been postponed due to the Tohoku earthquake, but finally became a reality last night at the Nihon Budokan.  The group also invited 700 locals from more than 30 evacuation centres, all of who had lived in Namie-machi, Fukushima prefecture, where the group’s DASH village was built.  It has been reported TOKIO members wanted to cheer the locals up using music.

“We have some guests with us today who have come in from the disaster zone.  I hope that they can take back some of the uplifting energy we’re making here tonight,” said Tomoya Nagase as the crowd began to applaud.

“Of course there’s DASH village, but we’ve also had a lot of help from many other people indirectly.  We thought about what TOKIO could do, and it was music.  We wanted to cheer you up,” Masahiro Matsuoka said.

Namie-machi is still in the no-go zone area around the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant.

“No one knows when we can go back there, but if the soil needs to be fixed then we want to do it.  It’ll mean more if we can do it rather than the government.  It’s our village so we want to get it back ourselves.  I want to go,” said Tatsuya Yamaguchi.

It has been reported last night’s concert included a special arrangement of “宙船 (Sorafune)”, performed a cappella by a 50-person choir.  KAT-TUN’s Koki Tanaka also made a special appearance during the concert’s encore and performed rap parts to TOKIO’s performance of “NaNaNa (太陽なんていらねぇ (Taiyo nante irane))”.
