DASH Island is a small island TOKIO will try to transform into a home, it was announced on August 31, reports Chunichi Sports.
The preview for the new project was revealed on their September 2 episode of variety show “ザ！鉄腕！DASH!! (The! Tetsuwan! DASH!!)”, and will start on September 16.
It has been reported the five members first stepped onto DASH Island on August 29, which is a several-hour plane trip and boat trip from Tokyo. The island covers about 0.45 square kilometres of land, and its highest peak is 174 metres above sea level. A few hundred people had lived on the island decades ago, but it has been abandoned since 1965.
TOKIO had spent 11 years making DASH Village in Fukushima, right until last year’s Japan Earthquake and subsequent nuclear accident which had forced the team to evacuate from the area. The area is part of a planned evacuation zone, which has made it difficult for the five to even visit the village.
Instead, the members will use the skills they’ve learnt over the past 12 years to try and create a mini Japan on their island.
“I’m excited like a little kid being put in this environment which is just teeming with adventure. There’s no running water, electricity, or area we could use as a base. We’re really starting from nothing, and I wonder what kind of DASH Island this is going to become…I think we’ll get a lot out of this,” Tatsuya Yamaguchi said.
Taichi Kokubun, who explored the island’s coast, said he was excited to find traces of old life.
“I’ve found so many interesting places and things made by the people who used to live here.”
Masahiro Matsuoka, who went through the island’s forest, said he was confident there were enough resources to keep the group alive.
“The mountain is quite high and steep. Around the base it’s like a jungle. But there are a lot of things in the mountains and the sea that we might be able to eat so I think we’ll be alright.”
Johnny’s senior talent Noriyuki Higashiyama told a popular TV show he thinks Koichi Domoto from KinKi Kids is the biggest perfectionist in Johnny’s, reports Techinsight Japan on July 21.
Higashiyama is currently 45-years-old, and is considered a perfectionist who has followed a strict training regime for the past 20 years. During a talk on TV show “しゃべくり007 (Shabekuri 007)”, it has been reported Higashiyama said he has kept his body-fat percentage below 10 per cent all these years because he exercises daily. This includes stretching and 1000 sit-ups every day.
Even so, when asked who he thought was the biggest perfectionist in Johnny’s, Higashiyama had said it would be Koichi, and that the KinKi Kids member was more dedicated to work than himself.
It has been reported Higashiyama said there was one time during the New Year’s Johnny’s concert when he went back to his dressing room thinking everything was alright, when Koichi came knocking at the door to ask him if the two could go through the songs one more time. Higashiyama also said Koichi’s “SHOCK” stage show was perfect, and admired Koichi for being able to “keep it up for four months on that show, usually your weight drops four or five kilos from doing a show for that long.”
Another Johnny’s talent who had been on the same TV show, TOKIO’s Masahiro Matsuoka also said Koichi was the most professional talent in Johnny’s, and the best junior to him.
It has been reported Koichi has been playing the main role in the stage show “SHOCK” for the past 13 years. It could be because he was given such an important role at the young age of 21 that he learned about responsibility more than others.
It has been reported Nishikido came out wearing a white tuxedo, and his drama co-star Yuka in a white wedding dress. The press conference venue was inside the chapel at Tokyo’s Shinagawa Prince Hotel.
“I’ve seen other people’s weddings before, but my first reaction was that [the aisle] is shorter than I had imagined,” Nishikido said.
In the drama, Nishikido plays a fictional version of himself, pop star “Ryo Nishikido”, who falls in love with a single mother with three children and gets married to her.
“I think pop stars deserve some kind of congratulations when they get married. I’m a coward in real life so I think ‘me’ in this drama is so cool to be able to take that risk,” he said.
When asked whether he was confident he could hide a secret marriage in real life, Nishikido said it was not up to him.
“It depends whether you the press can find out.”
It was difficult not to think of Nishikido’s fellow Johnny’s talent, Jin Akanishi, who had announced his sudden marriage to actress Meisa Kuroki in February, and is now paying the price with a cancelled tour and being dropped by a drama series.
TOKIO leader Shigeru Joshima, who plays a retired pop star, and Naomi Zaizen, who plays Kanjani8′s manager in the drama, both had simple advice for Nishikido.
“Let Johnny-san know,” Joshima said.
“I think you should let your manager know first,” Zaizen said.
