One of the best dancers at Johnny’s will get his first musical lead 16 years after joining the agency, reports Mainichi Shimbun.

29-year-old Yara Tomoyuki joined Johnny’s when he was 13, and has been a member of several groups in his Johnny’s Jr. years including Musical Academy.  More recently, he has choreographed concerts for KinKi Kids, Arashi, and Kanjani8.  It has been a long wait for the talent but now he has the lead in the musical “道化の瞳 (Douke no Hitomi)“.

“My dream has come true.  4 or 5 years ago, after I had left the group and started solo work, I became more ambitious.  I’m really grateful to be able to be a part of something like this now,” he said.

The musical is separated into two parts.  The first is about Kenichi (played by Tomoyuki), who has leukemia, and the people he gets to know in the hospital including his blind mother, and the two doctors in the hospital.  The second part is a stage performance of a story Kenichi wrote, about a shoe shiner (Tomoyuki) and a group of clowns.

“道化の瞳 (Douke no Hitomi)” will be performed in Tokyo’s Theatre Creation from April 10 to 24.
